Kate Bohan, is an acclaimed Chinese-American filmmaker who started her journey 8
years ago. Kate's first feature film Kayla (2018) garnered national recognition for her
exceptional screenwriting and directing skills, and in 2020, she wrote, directed, and
produced Harper, which after completing a successful theatrical run in Los Angeles,
qualified for the 94th Academy Awards. It won a Gold Remi Award at the 55th
Houston International Film Festival and was also a Semi-Finalist in the Oscar
Certified Flicker Rhode Island International Film Festival 2022. Since its global
release in Summer 2022, Harper has been a resounding success.

Director Statement
In the spring of 2022, I was fortunate enough to meet this heroic woman whose story, whose life I wanted to put on the big screen. Throughout the process of making this film, I have felt so much gratitude. The crew and cast that I’ve had the privilege of working with are all such talented people, who have sparked countless ideas and have served as inspiration to the development of the story and the characters. I am so lucky to have gotten the opportunity to work with people who challenge me on a daily to dive deeper into my storytelling. For most directors and producers, the reward for putting in all that effort may be the numbers on a payroll. For bosses, that feeling of achievement might come with hitting their expected film profits. As for me, the reward, that feeling of success comes when people finally get to see the finished product. I truly hope this story will move people and make a lasting impact on their lives. With determination and drive, we can use the power we have to bring about positive change to this industry. These dreams that I held onto for so long come to fruition with my fourth feature. I hope those who watch it will continue to support me, support the film, support the arts, support passion, and support this creative industry which makes achieving my dreams possible.
